Very informative series, just found it recently here on youtube. Question about so many rocks and gravel on the bottom, I am about to start construction of a koi pond in my backyard and almost everything I have read from koi pond builders is to avoid gravel on the bottom as over time it can be extremely hard to clean the waste from the fish, causing bacteria issues. I have a couple of indoor fish tanks so the theory definitely makes sense to me. I can see using it here as the pond is shallow and the liner would be very visible without so many rocks. But my plan is a deeper pond, 24"-36" throughout and to avoid rocks/gravel other than on the initial shelf, just have a clear or mostly clear bottom of the pond (maybe a couple of rocks in corners to hold the liner down. Would be interested in your thoughts.

My rubber diffuser got clogged after a year or so! Cannot get it unclog so have to just throw it away!

15 years ago, I built a 6 foot pond and waterfall which looks amazing (actually better than ever) and has become an important watering hole for wildlife. All day long, birds, squirrels, chipmunks, woodchucks and other wildlife come to drink from the pond and every summer we probably have 20 frogs. Also, as the presenter stated, kids are crazy about the pond. I am now contemplating a slightly larger pond and I was very impressed with the knowledge and clarity of the presenter. In particular, his tips regarding the shelves and placement of stones are spot on. Well done! Having built a pond, I would say this is a very doable project especially with the great advice through this series of videos. I would also say that once having a pond, I couldn’t imagine having a backyard without one. If you build a pond, you won’t be disappointed.

Some of the plants which look great around my pond are sedum, hostas and zebra grass.

What kind of budget pump would you advise to use in a duckquaponics with about 958 gallons of water? I am thinking of the poop clogging a submersible, and I am completely ignorant in this field. People that are trying this out on-line have had fails, and some that think they are doing okay. When it does work out, they do not reveal the type of pump. Preferably something economical in watts, for this thing will have to run all the time.

No doubt Aquascape is an industry leader, good quality, products, but the 2500 at $700 is mighty steep from mostly all plastic. I built my first bond 25 years ago. The pricing for most items has quadrupled. Seems the business has overtaken. And enjoyable backyard project.
